Well I had the estimate sent, and a call from the person who did the estimate. They checked the whole camera and said everything was fine except the exposure compensation button. To fix the button by adding a new one involved taking the camera apart, and the cost is $790. I went ahead with that very high price since I want it fixed, so I have a great working camera to sell.
When I asked why the price was so high, I was told it is hard to get at the button to replace it. OK, how long will it take? It would be a fast fix, hum. Moving on.
Yup they said that about my button..... I said no to that repair.... it was seated just slightly off the click and when i gave it the most gentle twist it fell right in place and button works just fine locks unlocks etc. They really are pushing this repair. I can replicate the issue on my A1 and A7cii its not stuck.
I gave them a negative survey with request to be called.... no call so far
Thanks for letting me know you had the same problem. I could make it work the same way you described. But since I am selling it I did not want to have the new owner not happy with the button.
It is very annoying the cost. I will not use or recommend them in the future. For a lot of years I have never hear good things about the business. In the past I always went to NJ with my XDCAM cameras and they were excellent. Even waited one time for a fix as I was about to travel to EU with the gear. In the future I will look for a local repair shop, there must be one in Boston area. Maybe Rule does repairs on mirrorless cameras?
