thank you for making me aware of this nice lens! I received my used copy a few days ago and like the results a lot.
I think the supplied hood is useful and unobtrusive and I plan to leave it on all the time. The painted aluminium would soon collect scratches and dings, so I designed a protection ring that covers the front area. Things like this are easy to model and 3D-print and I have uploaded the model to Thingiverse to everybodys benefit. If you find it useful for your application you could have a look for someone who can print it out for you. My print was a bit uneven on the mating surface and I had to even it out a little by scraping with a cutter and have then mounted it in warm condition.
