Re: Official: Sony RX1R III Digital Camera announced!
I raise this topic in that many seem to express a concern that Sony seems to have slowed innovation and is now using off the shelf technology and components(like the unmodified 35mm Sonnar lens). This circles back to price and many prefer to pay for proven technology/features that are widely available with other cameras.
Regarding Sony’s core technology, I think this video makes clear that sensors for cameras, such as the Alpha series, is not a real focus of Sony’s R&D. First, it was smartphones and Sony’s decades long association with Apple. Now, it is self-driving cars and industrial robots. I think the segment of the market that we focus upon is not the future market, nor a central focus of future Sony planning/profits. So, small technological iterations is what we have recently seen and can expect. On the positive side, should our technology never change, which it will, we have available an amazingly large array of capable cameras at every price/performance segment of the camera market.
