Apparently the M240 battery was converted to a 'spare part' and removed as a regular retail-channel item at some point. There is a LUF thread about M240 battery availability and a specific post about this: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/399145-m240-battery/?do=findComment&comment=5450824

Also in that thread, it was recently noted that apparently due to demand, Leica has reinstated the battery as a regular retail SKU: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/399145-m240-battery/?do=findComment&comment=5796967

Leica could certainly have handled communication around this better. By transferring it from retail to spare parts listing, and not providing any communication, it would appear to have been discontinued because it would no longer be available through regular retail channels. To end users this would appear to be an indication that significant support for the M240 series had been dropped.
