I think any Summilux built after serial numbers 1,844,000 have the same design. I have absolutely enjoyed the rendering of the “3” on film and any 24mp digital. The focus throw is so smooth and the chromed brass is substantial. The “3” is a Mandler designed lens that I think pays homage to film more than adapting for digital. Although, my M2 might look pretty slick with the “2” and crinkle coat lens hood. Any trades?
