I just received the 1.5" tall 105mm metal hood. When I had the 200-600, I used a similar metal hood and left it on. I am going to put away the big and heavy Sony hood. It just takes way to much room in a bag. The metal hood will stay on (not reversible) the whole time. I rarely shoot into the sun for the kind of stuff I use this lens for, so a short hood works much better.
To my big and pleasant surprise, the 400-800+A1+1.5" hood+lens cap fits in the Benba 24L bag, perfectly. The total length of this setup is about 17.75" long.
