Re: CP+ 2025 Voigtlander speculation thread! | |
I really hope that Voigtländer will release the upcoming 28 f/2 APO, as well as their 90 f/2 APO, on Sony FE. I have and love the 50 APO, and I previously had the 35 APO, but I find 35mm and 50mm a bit too close. A set of 28, 50 and 90 APO would be perfect.
My other wish is for Voigtländer or Zeiss (now that they're back to doing photo lenses), to release new ultra-wide lenses, like an update to the 15 Heliar (with a removable lens hood and slightly improved optics), or even another 21mm; the f/3.5 isn't quite there optically, the f/1.4 is not necessary for me due to size and weight (though not heavy or big for what it is), and the Loxia got frustrating haptics and could probably be made slightly lighter.
I might buy the 15 H, one of the 21's and a 35 Loxia for now anyway, as they can found for reasonable prices used, and resell them if and when the 28 APO and potential ultra-wides get released. If the 28 APO doesn't, I will replace the 35 Loxia with the 35 APO. The latter is a tough sell where I live, so I rather not take the risk if they do release the 28 APO.
The 35 APO disappointed me in only producing well-defined sunstars at f/11 and slower, in difraction territory, while the 50 APO does so much earlier, from f/4, so I hope the 28 APO follows the 50 APO. The 35 APO copies I had, were just as good as the 50 APO copies, both in terms of resolution and lack of aberrations.
The 50 built was a bit more smooth, in terms of the focus and aperture rings.
I did consider adapting the 90 f/2 APO, but it doesn't perform optimally when adapted, and the 90 f/2.8 APO is a bit disappointing, I think. Or perhaps, I might just try a M11 and see if it's for me. Always admired manual focus through a rangefinder, though I often will need to use the screen, as I use ultra-wide a lot. It just seems fun to use, but of course not the most accurate.
