That's why comparisons with third-party solutions such as Sigma make little sense, as was the case with the Plena vs. 135 Art.
It just adds up, no adapter necessary, lower weight than the Art+FTZ combo and significantly better, less top-heavy balancing, AF speed and reliability, weather sealing, coatings are in a completely different league with the Z 35/1.2 S, like the Plena it comes among others with Nikon's Meso Amorphous Coat, previously only used with the Z 400/2.8 TC VR S, Z 600/4 TC VR S and the Plena.
Nikon's highest quality coating in terms of flare/ghosting, or as they themselves call it the highest anti-reflection performance in NIKKOR history.
Incidentally, this also characterizes the Plena and are factors that are often neglected, because the differences in intense stray light, backlighting in terms of flaring, ghosting, veiling flare, contrast drop are sometimes large and Nikon does a fantastic job with lenses like the f/1.2 S or the Plena, considering the large size and number of glass elements that is outstanding optical engineering.
Craftmaship, handling, coatings, weather sealing, fast + snappy AF are all at top notch level with Nikon's high end prime lenses, factors where the 3rd party solutions in particular sometimes falter.
I'm not a fan of the dimensions, identical to the Z 50/1.2 S, but ultimately I welcome Nikon's uncompromising approach to professional high-end optics.
This is a lens category where I don't expect half measures, i.e. f/1.2 and the full program that sets you apart from the competition.
With the Z 35/1.2 S, Z 50/1.2 S, Z 58/0.95 Noct, Z 85/1.2 S, Z 135/1.8 S Plena, Nikon now has an incomparable range of outstanding high-performance prime lenses for the professional user or the most demanding photographer.
Extremely fast, large, heavy, expensive, but also setting new standards in terms of the overall quality and refinement of the rendering.
Whether this is worth the extra price is a very individual decision, I can say from experience with the Plena and the Sigma 135 Art, Plena justifies its extra price with corresponding added value on many levels and I have little doubt that it will be the same here.
