1- If you check your 7D you will find a microphone on the back of the camera where you can record 30 second messages associated with a photo, so there is no need for a note pad, and I am certain the R3 and R5 have retained that feature.

2- B&H offers a 12 month interest free credit card with monthly payments which would allow you reach for the R1.

3- You should be deducting your equipment as a business expense with the help of an accountant.

4- Joining Canon CPS will give you hotline support so you can access features from the field. I was shooting the US Open and I needed to know how to work the notepad and I call from the court. Some of the East European names are to hard to remember.
