I’ve been working on a set of prints for an exhibition and the commonality is they are all created with digital medium format Pentax gear. The large, cumbersome no-frills camera (no live view!) with old-school metal bodied manual lenses and the classic 4:3 aspect ratio influenced my workflow similar to my previous days of shooting 4x5 view cameras, with a more careful, slower, and thoughtful approach, and I like how that worked for me (but I am also a fan of fullframe cameras for landscape work since that workflow and system is just so much fun). Of course web jpegs won’t represent the visual joy of standing in front of the large prints on beautiful Canson etching rag paper, but I hope they convey some of the beauty I was blessed to see and compose across America.
