I personally didn't think there much room for a Z7III with the Z6III at $2500 and the Z8 in the $3500-$3900 range. Who in their right mind would pay $3000-$3300 when for $200-$600 more you could get a Z8.
If Nikon process the Z6III AT $1800-$2000 there would have been a sleeve for a Z7III in the $2700+$2900 but that is it the window now
It took a bit for the Z8 to drop from $4k to $3.5k. If we're going to compare discounted pricing, the Z7iii will probably drop down to $2.5k to $2.7k while the Z6iii will drop down to $2k. There's your gap.
But yes I can see why Nikon is taking pause because the Z7 and Z7ii sales were dismal to say the least. But at the same time, that was also because it was using very medicocre last generation tech. I'm going to guess they're just waiting it out this EXPEED7 generation and let the popular cameras take it's course for the powers that be to earn some confidence back before reintroducing the Z7 line back with EXPEED8.
But that's going to take a year IF they drop the price of the Z6III and at that point what's the point of a a Z7III? I don't think there will be a Z7III. It just has no place. That is what Nikon is saying when they say they are evaluating the market. Sounds like they are saying not likely but will monitor the market and see if anything changes
Oh it'll drop by Christmas. The Z8 dropped by $300 for Christmas last year. Give the Z6iii 3 to 6 months and street prices will go down gradually and then stabilize at maybe $300~$500 off MSRP by the year. Cameras don't have yearly refresh cycles like phones and don't get bought in volumes like phones. The discounts will kick in soon after the initial rush is over and production catches up and start filling up storage space.
It's not that the Z7iii doesn't have it's place. You have the pockets of users who want more than 24MP but don't want to spend $3.5k on a Z8 or $4k+ on a Z8ii when it gets released. There's your market. When Nikon says they're evaluating the market, they could be just trying to ascertain that it's not a matter of "correlation doesn't mean causation". And again, the Z7 and Z7ii sales gave them cold feet. It will take a while for those feet to get warm again.
We'll see. It'll go on sale, but i doubt a permanent price drop. Not even still, a 3 00 to 500 price drop isn't enough even they are going to have to prove a Z7III at $2800-$3000. A Z8 at $3500 isn't enough of a price difference. Why would anyone buya Z7III over a Z8 at that point?
I just highly doubt there's a place for aZ7III. The other tell take sign it the fact that a Z6 and Z7 always launched together and there is no Z7III anywhere to be found. That plus the Nikon Rep saying that Nikon is evaluating the market means it's likely not even in development
It's all speculation. I'm just reading the tea leaves and they are saying that a Z7III isn't very likely
