They need to develop a medium format camera and a line of medium format lenses. Is all that for the purpose of reducing noise?

I've been wondering about why Nikon didn't consider a wider area of coverage when designing the wider Z mount and the new lens designs. I think it was an error to design a new mount and series of lenses that don't have enough coverage to be adequate for medium format. You can only push a 24x36 sensor so far.
