I recently acquired a Zeiss 32/1.8 lens and am thrilled with the images it produces. I've always been a fan of the Planar optical design for Canon ZE and Contax models, so I'm delighted to have such a compact and lightweight option dedicated to Fuji. I also own the XF 35/1.4 but have not used it much after trying the Touit.
Very nice! Its a nice compact AF 30ish mm lens. Little heavier than XF 35/1.4 and a little bigger but barely ( about the same length once that XF 35/1.4 barrel extends out ) and it feels very solidly built.
I really like the IQ and rendering of the Zeiss and for me I find the AF speed just fine. I am taking mine on my upcoming trip because I would like to have one small AF lens with me to balance out my manual CV lenses and the nifty fiftyish EFL is my number one FL anyway.
Interesting to hear that about the XF 35/1.4...I did not own both at the same time, though I wish I had so I could see which I actually preferred. I will say that I was not a fan of the extending barrel of the XF 35/1.4 but that is purely just a preference thing.
Perhaps some day you can do a head to head shoot out and assessment of these two, that would be interesting for sure. Also, the Zeiss 50mm/2.8 macro Touit for X-mount is pretty phenomenal as well...try it some day if you have not already.
BTW, 1.03 is the current firmware and yes the X-mount variant of this lens can be updated via the body. I'm not sure why the E mount version has to be sent in but anyways its not the case for X-mount.
