It depends. I travel with my lenses attached to my bodies when I am using my roller or my glass limo bag. I do so because they both have braces that support the lens right at the mount to the camera body. With my other bags like my Gurugear (which has minimal padding), I travel with the lenses unattached until I get to my final destination, after which I will attach them and keep them that way.
