I am planning a trip to Barcelona this Summer too. Is it safe to use/carry a regular Q2 there as the sole camera? I am thinking about taping the red logo. Isn't it black camera is more "stealth" in general?
I actually prefer M10R or M11 more for experience and files ... but wonder if it is safe in Barcelona to use an M body and lenses.
beware of pickpocketers; they work in tandem in popular tourist spots.
Generally, in any such place, I prefer to be a bit discrete about my photography and not drawing attention to myself. Mostly I did not feel particularly threatened in Barcelona, though there were times when my attention level was higher.
FWIW, I work with smaller gear (most recently XT5 and the 27mm f/2.8 90% of the time) and I don’t hang camera stuff around my neck that says, “Look! Expensive camera!” I carry the camera and perhaps an extra lens or two in a non-photographic bag, these days a smaller-than-messenger-bag bag from PacSafe that is pretty secure. I often leave the camera in the bag unless I think opportunities are immediately present, and when it is out I’m using a wrist strap and mostly holding the camera down at my side — not slighting it over my shoulder where it is obvious.
So far — knock on wood — we’ve been safe… though we had a close call in Venice las summer. We were definitely being tailed by a couple of guys as we walked near the train station with all of our stuff (luggage in backpacks, and smaller bags over the shoulder and across teh chest.). I saw what was happening and made a quick move and they walked past. We continued, and moments later they were right behind us again. We immediately ducked into a restaurant and they were gone. (Apparently the routine is that a couple of guys will grab your stuff, run, and quickly hand it to someone else who escapes with it.)
But not to leave the wrong impression… last summer we traveled for 10 weeks all over the place: Spain, Portugal, Italy, Kosovo, Croatia, and more. We met tons of great, friendly people everywhere.
Don’t be paranoid, but do be alert!
