At the most beautiful hotel in Chiang Mai, in harsh and bright, noonday tropical light. Taken with the Ricoh GRIIIx: this is virtually a straight out of camera JPG (with only a slight pull-back of highlights), shot with the Hard B&W Preset. It reminds me of what the teacher of the first photo workshop I took (at Maine Photographic Workshops) in the mid-1980s: it was a darkroom work shop. The teacher advised me to shoot with the idea of making order out of complexity.
I found when I processed the DNG, rather than using the JPG, I tended to use darker tones that didn’t make the dark tree branches form a strong enough pattern: this pattern form being essential for this image.
