The benefits of owning an A7CR as a back-up to an A7RV:
1) Having a back-up body with nearly identical capabilities as the main body. Files and editing are the same.
2) Configuring both bodies 95% the same in terms of function buttons and menus, makes for great ease of use and muscle memory.
3) The A7CR grip extender is on by default, so it allows me to comfortably use both bodies with larger primes and zooms.
4) Carrying 2 body/lens combinations in the bag, allows for quick lens changes without changing lenses.
5) The A7CR sans grip, used with my small prime(s), allows my kit to be light and discrete for urban/street and travel.
6) For urban/street settings, I love the EVF location on the A7CR. First, it keeps my big nose out of the way. But most important, it allows me to use both eyes to anticipate traffic or people coming into the frame. I don't mind the smaller EVF if I remove my glasses and jam it in under my eye brow, which also helps stabilize it. This is perfect for zone focusing.
It's great having different horses for different courses.
