Regardless of MP, speed, form factor, etc the only thing that will see me buying a new Nikon body is at least a two stop gain in noise reduction above ISO 6400 compared to anything they have out right now. That is my real area of need, everything else is just an extra.
Zero chance of that happening unfortunately, from any brand, at least in the foreseeable future. Resolution normalized ISO performance hasn't changed significantly in over a decade, and it is not going to see any major improvements going forward without a major shift in technology. Sensor improvements these days are centered around readout speed and increasing resolution without any major downsides elsewhere.
Thankfully with the RAW converters available now, noise is rarely a problem until you get into the really extreme ISOs. If you want ISO 6400 to look like ISO 1600 straight out of the camera, you won't be buying a new camera body for a very long time
