The guy I hung out with for a while yesterday was a door gunner in the late 60's early 70's.
I should NOT have been in the "driver's" seat Bill BUT the Captain allowed me to do so every now and then. I was recovering from leg wounds and they, my co, assigned me to be a desk clerk for 2 weeks! I said NO WAY SIR!!! I will volunteer as a door gunner and the doctor ok'd that!
I could not sit around pushing a pencil while my team was out on a mission. LZ Stud- April 1968
