Personally I think the holy grail would be the A9C. That would sell by the bucketload.
Seems the most likely explanation they're identical but with different sensors. Like car makers did with the modular platforms. Drastically cut production costs.
Makes perfect sense as a small body since it removes the requirement for a shutter at all.
Lack of 1/8000th mechanical shutter complaints?

Solved.
The camera would be even lighter too.
Aside from the slight DR penalty it's the natural progression for these smaller cameras.
A5100 with A1 sensor.
