A bit where I am - do I get the 180-600 or do I got for the 400/4.5 knowing I have the 70-200/2.8 and 1.4 TC

Is the difference in IQ substantial aside from the extra stop gained at 400 ?

FWIW only: I bought the 100-400 to try because I was using my 70-200 virtually 100% of the time with the 1.4x. I eventually sold the 70-200 due to non-use and set the money aside. I debated long over the 400/4.5, but my 100-400 was so good at 400 and I definitely appreciate and use it as my “do-all” zoom; far more versatile than my 70-200 was — except having f2.8 in the 150-200 range, and if I buy the 70-200 back it will be for that reason alone.

I have the 800 and love it; lightweight and excellent optically.

I recently got the 180-600. Frankly incredible for the money, S performance at a non-S price. At 600, it’s almost on par with the 800 unless you pixel peep, the biggest thing being a little lower contrast. It’s good enough at 840 with the 1.4x I think I could be okay leaving the 800 behind when room or weight is a primary concern. My current nit is it’s so good I’m wondering how much I will use the 100-400, but then the 100-400 is tiny by comparison and works decently with the 1.4x too. So for now it stays until I get a better handle on how much I want to use it. If (when??) I sell the 100-400, I’ll likely replace it with another 70-200. But for now I don’t miss f2.8 or not having the 70-100 range on it, so no real incentive to make that change.
