Re: Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.0 announced for Canon RF mount
Amazing how long it has taken for some manufacturers to build in top-tier focus aids. Why, you would almost imagine they make loads of green from their ranges of fully and relentlessly AF lenses. They even did away with aperture rings. You end up with a sparsely equipped plastic blob, that resembles a hand grenade in its aesthetic appeal.
I have a sense CV is turning the tide for MF and encouraging a new breed of photographers to move to the traditional method of taking photos. A toe in the water at first, then: wow, this is fun and look at the image quality!
In CV, you are now dealing with peer competitors for Leica M lenses, which is their main schtick. They throttled back their APO lenses for M users. So their heritage is Carl Zeiss general appearance but with the M user group in mind, and those people are rather hard to please. M lenses attract a kind of fetishism too, CV lenses were often unfairly received. Lenses of this kind from CV are small and beautifully made, delightful focus rings. High end industrial artistic products. It's hard to look at the small makers' lenses from China.
"All Voigtländer camera lenses ... are made in the same factories owned by Cosina, thereby making our products 100% made in Japan. No outsourced manufacturing or 3rd party assembly."
Here, the hood is the usual ultra-light and neat street-worthy item. Shame he chose a male model, but never mind. These lenses - the RF 50/1.2 and the CV 50/1 - are both niche optics located at either end of the spectrum, and vanishingly few buyers will be wondering which one to choose!
This dude might have shot more practical and depth-heavy compositions. Bokeh flowers don't tell you much. CV eschew the usual blur-out contest for ultra-fast lenses. They provide very engaging depth cues as a big part of their image rendering, and this distinguished them from the Leica and Nikon ultra-fasts. That plus image quality at f1, of course. thanks.
