My M11 is just so close to perfect now for how I shoot it. I am trying to think what they could add that would compel me to upgrade.
IBIS? So far I am able to get nice crisp images without it. Maybe I could shoot a couple of stops slower shutter speeds and lower my ISO. But I am not having noise issues as it is. My M glass is between f/1.4 and f/2.0 so I usually have plenty of light.
Some sort of flippy LCD screen on the back? But, I shoot through the Range Finder 90+ percent of the time. The only time I shoot from the rear screen is landscapes or portraits on a tripod. Otherwise it is RF, or RVF for me.
Wireless charging? I am very happy with the USB-C for charging and downloading.
Bigger battery? Mine lasts days of shooting now. If I ever need to top off my USB covers me fine. I feel I wasted money on the 2nd battery. I bought it based on my M10-P experience only.
Better WiFi communication? Leica Fotos works great on the M11. In fact so good that if I ever want to shoot very low to the ground it works better than a flippy screen.
More resolution? No way am I interested in that.
Built in selectable RF or EVF? Hmmmm. The EVF would have to be exceptional good, and stable. It must not reduce the RF experience one little bit.
I can paint out my own red logo dot if I want.
I don't care about paint, or different engravings. Mine already has a very stealthy Alphaguard covering.
I wonder what they will come up with?
Anyone have ideas on what else?
The M10-P had some significant changes beyond just its looks. It brought in a touchscreen and a quieter shutter, which were noteworthy improvements. As for the upcoming M11-P, we do know they're removing the red dot and adding some engraving on the top plate. It's also possible that they'll upgrade the internal memory, but we'll have to wait for more information to be sure.
It would be great if they focus on improving the camera's reliability and consistency in the upcoming model by replacing some hardware.
In the M10-P, it was similar to the M10M and M10R with the engineering (non-cosmetic) differences from the base M10. Looking to the engineering (non-cosmetic) differences in the M11M vs. M11 ... I mean, it strikes me that the M11-P will essentially be a M11M (engineering / non-cosmetic) with a BFA installed.
I think the relationship between the M-P and M-M were also similar engineering diff's vs. the base model M. So, if I follow this model from the M > M10 > M11, I'd be surprised if there is much engineering change from the M11M to the M11-P (other than the obvious BFA). Although, I wouldn't mind if they could get the metering to be more like the M10. No matter for me, though ... M11 isn't in my vocabulary (except the occasional dream of an M11M).
I did enjoy my M-P, since it had the better shutter release than the M. Engraved top plate and black screw were nice, but the cosmetics were just a nice benefit, whereas the shutter release (and buffer) were the engineering diffs that made the M-P model my initial entry point (vs. base M). Still can't think of what engineering diff's they would bring to the M11-P that isn't already in the M11M (BFA, notwithstanding.
Guess we'll learn soon enough if this is purely cosmetic, or they have some actual engineering diffs (i.e. internal memory + )
