I have lots of photographic equipment that prominently features country (or even city) of origin. I guess it has never bothered me...in fact, I think it's part of the charm - everyone and everything is from somewhere.
If you don't like it, you don't like it.
I feel the "China" in red is tasteful. My 8-Element is a wonderful lens that is made to a very high standard. The people who made it should be very proud. This is just my opinion. It's not any right-er or wrong-er than anyone else's. You can't account for taste, but I do tire of the well-worn chestnut (in so far as it pertains to these lenses) of: "China bad." On the RFF thread for the 8E, it became very distracting. I've been really happy to find the thread here staying more on-topic.
