The misinformation about the Z6 and Z7 = disaster/underwhelming etc on the www is propagated by trolls incapable of understanding simple facts, notably utubers posing as reviewers bashing Nikon. These get broadcast on photography forums by self anointed experts threatened/jealous of Nikon products, and particularly the rapid success of the Z System. This is of course a prime example of Sonyfanism: "The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy with other equipment." to quote Roger Cicala, 2018
I don't think many are threatened by such things. I think most are happy when their fellow photographers find equipment that bring them enjoyment. I know I am.

This is the well known tactic of the late unlamented Dr Goebbells - tell a lie often enough so it gets believed (at least by the gullible).... It is impossible to engage in a rational dialogue. It is pointless engaging with someone who distorts reality. Anything they post is unreliable. Such repeaters are better ignored in their echo chambers.
This is a cheap and tired tatict to try and associate those with differing opinions with great evil. It adds nothing to the discussion. You can do better.

However, In the interests of this Nikon forum being a repository sharing reliable information about Nikon products, it is important to call out internet noise perpetuating nonsenses about the Z6 and Z7 being failures/underperformers... let alone a disaster. The reason for Nikon's lost marketshare is no mystery - the rapid loss of the big sales in consumer DSLRs and especially Point&Shoots to smartphones.
The statement about the Z6/7 camera sales "underperforming" came from Nikon leadership itself. I give them more credibility than any reviewer, user, website, YouTuber.
You seem to keep confusing "market share" with "market shrinkage". All companies suffered from general market shrinkage. Nikon lost a disproportionate amount of "market share". In fact, Nikon held on to its DSLR 2nd place "market share" position against Canon throughout the "market shrinkage". However, in mirrorless "market share" it fell to 5th place behind former small players, while at the same time Sony and Canon both grew their mirrorless market share. Nikon's growth in mirrorless was unable to replace its position in market share as Canon was able to do. This was based on Nikon's offering in mirrorless at the time, which were primarily the Z6/7. That is a set of statistics the entirely support the "underperforming" statement by Nikon. It is what mattered to the executive team at Nikon. The rest of you discussion is just chaff.
You also mischaracterize my use of the term "disaster" as saying the cameras are a disaster. It is true that I personally disliked the Z6/7, and was disappointed by my purchase of one. But that is a disaster in no ones book. No, the disaster I reference is the loss of market share, long lasting financial damage which amounted to billions of dollars between write downs, relocations, layoffs, and market capitalization, which Nikon suffered by being late to, and uncompetitive in the mirrorless market. Although the excellent Z8/9 releases are mitigating some of this, much remains, and there still is recovery needing to happen.

Back on terra firma with some facts. The reliable reviews tell a different story about the Z6 and Z7.
Your evaluation of facts, and the reliability of reviewers, seems to be entirely based on whether they agree with you. You will notice that you quote almost exclusively Nikon advocate websites, while I am referencing statements by actual company insiders. Big difference in credibility there.
The statement that Nikon weather sealing is excellent is not being contested by me. I believe it to be the best. But, the market demonstrated that buyers of cameras didn't place this attribute higher than other areas where the Nikon mirrorless cameras trailed the industry. This once again confirmed by market share data.

If I had to start from scratch I am not sure what I would choose. But Nikon should be in the running for anyone looking at the three major FF systems.
I agree on this, and in some uses like wildlife, first on that list in my opinion.
Note:
You know of course that both things being discussed in this conversation can be true. Nikon could have been late to the mirrorless party. This mistake could have hurt Nikon financially, and delayed the release of truly competitive mirrorless offerings. Nikon could have also made some excellent long term choices, and over time ended up producing a World class mirrorless ecosystem I thing the nIkon Z lens line supports this, and the Z8/Z9 cameras also fit into this excellence standard. In my opinion, this is the mostly likely summary of what has taken place.
