A few examples
All mirrorless cameras I have used would have trouble with this , background is very busy and the bird is flying towards the camera. If the background were clean , not a problem. Also if the camera is set to focus on the closest subject it should also pick it up , but the bird is pretty small in the frame.
Attached is another example , if the Egret flew up into the busy background full of other egrets the Z8 struggled, but as soon as the background was clear like the photo below , instant lock. If there was more distance between the subject and background it also focuses easier , but I tend to prefocus on the desired distance to help things out with all cameras I own.
