Re: Voigtlander 35mm f/2 APO-Lanthar Review

As mentioned by previous speakers, both are fantastic lenses.

I think it depends, of course on the preference for a particular focal length, but also of the rest of the equipment and what is available elsewhere in the respective focal length range for your used mount.
On the Nikon Z-forum you mentioned that you are a Nikon shooter, so here are some suggestions from a Nikon Z user's perspective.

One of the reasons I chose the CV 35/2 AL-Z, was the fact that there was no satisfactory 35mm native solution for me in the Z-mount, unlike with 50mm.
With the Z 50mm f/1.8 S, Nikon has an exceptionally good 50mm in the Z-mount, if you include the price in the evaluation
My Z 50mm f/1.8 S, including two Kenko DG Extension Tubes (10/16 mm) for Nikon Z cost me just 450,- € on the used market.

The lens was absolutely as new, probably hardly used and is punshing clearly above it's weight.
If you subtract the proceeds from the sale of the Kenko Extension Tubes, the lens was an investment of 350,- €.
CV 50mm f/2 Apo-Lanthar for the Z-mount is bricked up @ 1099,- € since release and it's also hard to come by on the used market, at least not as a bargain.
If you buy both lenses new, the 50mm Apo Lanthar costs twice as much, used you can save even more with a Z 50mm f/1.8 S.

So that could be another decision criterion.
The price difference between a Z 50mm f/1.8 S, which is undoubtedly one of the best Nikon Z f/1.8 S primes and the CV 50mm f/2 AL-Z is correspondingly large.
This is no longer the case with 35mm, where the price differences between a Z 35mm f/1.8 S and a CV 35mm f/2 AL-Z are much closer due to the higher price of the Z 35mm.
Apart from that, the difference in quality is also greater at this focal length if you are in the Z-mount, the Z 35mm f/1.8 S is not quite on the same level as the Z 50mm f/1.8 S.

A new CV 35mm f/2 AL-Z is only 200,- € more compared to a new Z 35mm f/1.8 S.
The price difference between the Z 50mm f/1.8 S and the CV 50mm f/2 AL-Z is at 550,- €, at least here in the EU.
So that could be a criterion which one should include, besides of course what is already there.
I was already well positioned in the focal length around 50mm with my Z 50/1.8 S, and some M42 optics, like my Auto-Rikenon 55mm f/1.4, A. Schacht Ulm M-Travenar 50mm f/2.8 R and a Carl Zeiss Jena 58 mm f/2 Biotar Q1 Pre-Set.
