I spend less time deciding to get a new camera than I do looking for the right bag. The bag one needs is very dependent on the activity. I appreciate all who have commented. I learn a lot for users experience here.
My primary activities are biking/mtn biking and hiking. For some reason the SO decided my old salty camelbak was meant for goodwill. Too bad as it still had things in it, like my capture clip... oh well, time to get a new bag.
I got the Osprey Raptor 14 hydration pack: https://www.osprey.com/us/en/product/raptor-14-RAPTOR14S19.html
currently on sale. Instead of going the full backpack route with an insert, I just put my lenses in individual pouches. I managed to carry my Gitzo GT0545T, A7Riv and some lenses, with new capture clip. Not to mention hydration, on a recent hike. i do have to take it off to change lenses though. If I put the capture clip on the opposite side of the tripod, it balances better.
I also have the Mindshift Photocross 10 I have taken on a few hikes. It requires putting a water bottle in the outer pocket, and is not that convenient to get to, especially compared to a dedicated hydration pack.
If I am traveling i take a Tenba Cooper 13 slim as it hooks over the suitcase handle bar. But I have never carried it around for long periods.
One bag I have not used much is a Kata 3N1-30 which is still available today. It does have side access where you can sling it around at access the camera. I have too many bags at the moment...
Living in Arizona, though, hydration is an essential feature for me.
