I haven’t tried Lightroom or Capture One, but I have experimented with different iPad options for camera download to SSD. The newer iPad Pros with USB-C ports work better than the old ones with Lightning ports. You can get the job done with either but with the USB-C iPad you can use a hub (I use an Anker) to connect the camera and SSD at the same time and copy directly from camera to iPad very easily. Using the legacy iPad you can only connect one device at a time so you need to stage files on iPad in batches.
Whichever way you go, use Cascable software. It works far better than Canon’s software. I bought the perpetual license instead of subscription to make sure it won’t fail trying to check its license while I’m off the grid.
