I purchased an app called Shutter (iPhone) which among other things allows for automating image capture for focus stacking. It works with the A1 so I gave it a test with the 12-24/2.8 GM. Seems to work pretty well. This image is a composite of 14 captures. It connects to the camera via direct Sony A1 WiFi (no cables) and also does stills, timelapse, HDR. The phone (and presumably tablet) can make many adjustments and focus to the camera although for focus stacking, MF is needed. I had never heard of this app before.

Image were processed in PS and LRC.

Bob, you meant manual focus is needed for focus stacking? That would be a pain if you want more than a few shots, wouldn't it?

I should have provided more detail. In the app you use manual focus to pick the near focus, and then the far focus. The app calculates the number of frames for focus stacking. And it gives you three levels, low, medium and high detail. It then automatically focuses and takes each of the frames calculate. So again, you only need to manually focus the near and far image. Hit start and the app takes over and focus the camera for each frame. This was my first attempt using the app.

Thanks Bob! I may try the app in Sony doesn't give focus bracketing to the A1 via firmware update in the next couple months.

For $20 - it was worth trying!

That's for sure. I am just hoping they will put the feature in the A1 so I don't have to messing around with the phone when I am taking pictures. I remember when Sony got rid of the smooth reflection app a lot of us were looking at a device (can't remember the name) that attach to the camera to perform similar tasks. It turned out to be a dud.

Anyway, it's very good to know such app for Sony exist and works.
