It just reads optical 6-bit Lens ID markings. It does not read the focusing cam position or the aperture setting. The EXIF storing the aperture setting on the camera is a bonus if you remember to match it up. With focal length registered you get 3-axis stabilization: yaw, pitch, and roll.
