Re: Official: Sony A7R V announced (pre-orders now available)

I am curious to learn if the Ai focus helps low light event photography focusing. Last might I covered a fancy Halloween party with everyone in costume and most with heavy makeup, plus a lot of glasses and masks. Many challenges focusing last night. Focus was slow and not as accurate as at a regular event.

Even "normal" low light on-camera flash event sometimes challenge my a7RIII and a9. With the weird makeup and glasses on many main subjects, the cameras didn't find eyes often. I should have turned off eye af to test; however, didn't think of that at the time.

Maybe the subject recognition would have helped. Of course buying a camera for this one situation is not a great idea. I wonder if the a1 would have performed better than the older cameras I own.

I've been planning to purchase an a1; however, now I wonder if an a1MII will have all the current features, plus AI focus. The waiting for feature game.

As always, if a camera makes sense, no reason to wait. I really like the a1 sync speed, quiet operation even with mechanical shutter, and the overall responsiveness.

I tried the a7IV for events and it is a nice event camera; however, still had some of the backlit focus issues as my current models. Similar to the a7RIV has backlit focus issues.

Summary of cameras used recently:
Own a9 and a7RIII
Recently used, a1, a7IV, a7RIV

I suspect a Canon 5DIV with Canon ir flash assist light would have focused much faster and accurately.
