I know a lot about photographing fall color in California. (I wrote a book on autumn photography in the Sierra.) But I have no experience at all photographing the famous New England fall color. (This subject came up in a B&H podcast that I was part of recently: ""Fall Foliage East and West with Jerry Monkman and G Dan Mitchell.)
I set out to rectify this gap earlier this month, spending some time in the White Mountains of New Hampshire at what turned out to be pretty much the peak of this year's color. (Extra special thanks to FM members who shared extremely helpful advice in a discussion thread on the locations board — if not for that I likely would have gone at the wrong time!)
There's a whole lot I could write about the what I found to be different and not-so-different about photographing in the Northeast, and eventually I will write about that on my blog and perhaps elsewhere. (Each of these, along with others, shows up in the daily posts at my blog, where I write a bit about each image.) In any case, I'm hooked on the location, and I hope to return.
For now, here is part of the first batch of photographs from the trip.
Thanks,
Dan
BTW: There's something more than a bit unusual about the black and white photograph...
