Wrapping Sisal rope around bumpers was pretty common on Bush vehicles back in the day. It provided protection when running through the Bush, or pushing othe cars etc.. plus it is a good place to store lots of rope for when you need it. East Africa has huge Sisal plantations so the rope was local and inexpensive.

For me I have developed a habit of keeping the focus turned to minimum or maximum distance as a starting point. That way I know where it is and only have to move in one direction to match up the RangeFinder Finder. As long as I don't over shoot it is very quick. Otherwise I have ore focused using zone focus techniques.
