When I was a kid in the '50's these were sometimes seen in South Africa but were called the "Henry J ".
Peter,
Your are so right! My Dad had a maroon colored one when I was preschool. This was in Arizona, and I only knew it at a Henry J. Our's died a violent death at the hands of a drunk driver going 50+ mph in an old Packard tank that rear ended my Dad as he was waiting in a left turn lane. The impact drove the rear end of the J into the back of the front seat and knocked the J 175' from a standstill. It was incredible that my Dad only had a cut on his elbow. The poor little J was no more and Dad replaced it with a Plymouth tank.
