Well, I didn't exactly have a shelter. I did go in my car for a brief moment. Other than that, I was under the sky. Wet, cold and shaking, both from getting cold and excitement.
Last time I felt a strange feeling when a lightning struck nearby. It was like my skin shook. A bit like goosebumps, but not quite. The lightning struck about 800 yards away. That scared me seriously good. That was the second time a lightning hit close enough for me to feel it. The first time was perhaps too close encounter. I got a little shock. My left arm was numb for a day. The flash was somewhere 300 yards from me, so really about one fifth of the distance that I feel is safe.
