Re: TTartisan Leica M to Sony E adapter with 6-bit code

Ok, the Novoflex 6 bit Leica R to Leica M adapter was delivered a few hours ago via USPS from Tasmania. First, I am not happy with the eBay seller. He sent the item a week late due to a sick cat. Then and I knew he was sending the package Standard International Post which was shown by USPS as 1st class mail. The seller just put the adapter in the plastic Novoflex box and threw it into this large plastic Standard International pouch (without even any padding or bubble wrap) and he charged me $50 Australian Dollars which was shown on both the receipt that he sent to me and confirmed on the package for $24 Australian Dollars (so he charged more than twice as much for shipping as it cost). It took just a day shy of 3 weeks to get here after it was shipped.

I mounted the adapter onto both the TTartisan 6 bit Leica M to NEX adapters and to my Leica R 180mm f3.4 -Telyt lens. The adapter fits the lens with just a very slight amount of movement, but like all of the lenses fits both TTartisan to NEX adapters tightly. The seller will not accept returns. I am not sure at this point whether the marks on the back of the Novoflex 6 bit Leica R to Leica M adapter were there originally or from the tightness of the mount, but I expect due to the tight fit that marks will be made on the adapter or are there now from mounting and switching adapters. The seller listed the adapter as Very good or almost new. I will leave eBay condition for adapter as E+, which was not the condition of my mint condition Novoflex Leica R to NEX adapter that I sold and shipped from the FM boards about the same time as the "new" Novoflex adapter was shipped.

What I have found, first, my Novoflex Leica ASTA-NEX ring (probably in the original batches in the USA from years ago) with the Arca Swiss QR plate built in does not fit the Novoflex Adapter which I was under the impression should from an article on-line as well as on the Novoflex website, but maybe the newer slightly modified adapters will. But, due to how close the lens release is located I am not sure how it would attach adequately.

As mentioned, the fit of the Novoflex 6 bit Leica R to Leica M adapter is quite tight with both of my TTartisan adapters (and I expect marks either have or will be made). The whole assemblance of the lens with both adapters is a good fit. I am a little concerned about using the combination without support under the lens (moving the center of gravity) from the L bracket, particularly with my A7rII Kolari Vision UT sensor modified camera. It will proably be OK, but I would probably be less concerned if both adapters and the lens were mounted on my A1 or even my A7rIII.

I mounted the 6 bit Novoflex Leica R to Leica M adapter onto I believe both TTartisan 6 bit Leica M to NEX adapters. I do not believe that the TTartisan 6 bit Leica R to Leica M adapters recognized the 6 bit encoding of the Novoflex adapter. I had both adapter focal length wheels set to 135mm and the A7rII Kolari Vision UT sensor camera recorded the set up as 135mm and f1.0. When the Leica R 180mm f3.4 Apo-Telyt lens was mounted onto both adapters (with the focal length wheels set to 135mm) to the camera, the camera registered the lens as set with the focal length at 135, aperture of the lens as f1 and I could set the apertures of the camera to the lens settings.

So, though I do not have the support for the combination that I would have liked at least at present, if I set the focal length wheel of both of my TTartisan 6 bit Leica R to NEX adapters, I can at least record the aperture set for the lens even though I can only have the focal length set and recorded to 135mm. I will however need to remember which lens was being used, but I do not normally carry more than 1 option of my Leica R 180mm f3.4 Apo-Telyt, Leica R 80-200mm f4 Vario Elmar, or my very old Leica M 135mm f4 Tele-Elmar V1.
