I had the Tamron 28-77mm f/2.8 G2 lens and was very happy with the optical performance. Why I decided to sell that and go with the Sony 24-70 f/2.8 GM II was really for the better weather sealing, aperture ring, and 24mm on the wide end. I just could not get comfortable with the Tamron's lack of weather sealing and starting a 28mm on the wide end. But if those two things are not as important to you then the Tamron is a fine mid-range zoom and for the price you can't go wrong. It's certainly a great time to be in the Sony eco-system with all the lens choices we have today!
