An open letter to Fred Miranda

I am writing it because I have no other way of communicating with Fred. It is impossible to send any private message from my newly created account.

My "Peire" user account was blocked after 12 years of use, after thousands of meaningful, useful and simply eye-catching publications.

Despite the thousands of photos, opinions and comments that made me get so many friends, my account is locked only because I have indulged in political, emotional comments about the Soviet aggression against Ukraine, where Soviet criminals murder thousands of innocent people. Children, old people and pregnant women.

In 1981, when I was 17, my father, a university professor of history, law and sociology, head-resident of communist Poland's intelligence service in Afghanistan, took me on a "vacation" to Afghanistan.

At first I didn't know what to do in a war-torn country, but my father told me that this experience would make me understand more about how the Third World works in war and help me become a consummate diplomat in the future.

I loved my father. He was a good, sensible, extraordinarily intelligent and gentle man, so I initially believed him.

But when I found myself in Bagram base and the villages around, I had a real shock. What I saw surpassed all imaginations of what a civilized war should be like, especially the young boy I was then.

The Soviets were ruthless murderers even then, and as soon as they organized their offensives along the rivers in the valleys, they destroyed everything in their path with fire from planes, cannons and tanks.
Afghan guerrillas, knowing this, backed up ahead of time.

Following the voice of my soul, I got involved in helping as a volunteer for the Medicines Sans Frontiers organization.

My father did not know this, but while I was working around the Bagram base, I met a young girl in one village with whom I fell unconditionally in love.

She did not speak any of the 10 modern and 2 ancient languages I knew, but in the midst of fire, fire and death, she carried within herself an indescribable, wonderful clarity and the power of the human spirit that could not fail to succumb. Religious considerations made no difference to me here.

I will never forget the day when I walked to her village in the morning, enjoying what I wanted to convey to her, to the village celebrating Kurban Bajram in a tiny mosque.

I will never forget when the Soviet Mi 24 helicopter hung over the mosque, nor how a soldier of Afghan General Masud with a Stinger on his shoulder appeared at the mosque door, nor how Mi 24 lowered its beak, nor how General Masud's mujaheddin fired to the helicopter.

A split second after the helicopter fired rockets, the tiny mosque exploded and its roof fell to pieces before my eyes. Then, following his undulating trail, Stinger hit the helicopter's forehead, which turned into a fireball for a few seconds and fell.

When I regained my fitness, I ran to the mosque. Nothing was left of my beloved woman. Her entire body burned in the fire of the explosion. Four Soviet rockets turned everything into hell.

When I calmed down, I ran away from my father and joined the mujachedins to avenge the death of my beloved at all costs.

I fought for over half a year, I killed Russians in a wild frenzy, until finally a barrage grenade exploding next to me severely injured me, overwhelmed me and blinded me. I wanted to die, but I am still alive,

Today I am a doctor, cardiologist. I have many interests, including photography.

And now Fred.

Rate it all and weigh it in your soul. Will you unlock my Peire account or not?

What is happening in Ukraine calls out to heaven for vengeance!

I have seen so many innocent people killed by the soviets that I cannot watch calmly as they continue to murder!

For my part, I can promise you that I will refrain from making any political comments in the future.

I am not your enemy, I am a free man! A descendant of people who have fought for their freedom for 400 years, including the freedom of Ukraine,as it was part ot the Rzeczpospolita for more than 450 years !!!

You FM emers I hope for your suport. If not you are pussy cuntrags without balls!

Hi there... I did very much enjoy your post and your story, and I very much appreciate what you have gone through, and the principles you seem to have followed in your life... But frankly I's afraid you are not doing your cause a service by copy/pasting the same message in every thread! It would have been more appropriate to create your own separate thread, and post your message there instead of posting it on every message thread without any relevance whatsoever....

Hope Fred unclocks your original account, given your promise of refraining from political comments on a photography forum in the future... (even though, honestly I personally don't mind seeing political comments here as I view this more of a community than just a photography forum, but any such political comments and statements, even if allowed, should definitely be on their own separate threads and not posted on photography-specific threads)

Just my 2 cents...
