Your editing style and lighting is what makes your images yours. The suggestions about the skin would be to bring you back to what most everyone else is doing, but artists tend to do their own thing thankfully. Don't be everyone else. Be you. As for CC, I will say to pay more attention to their posture. On 1 and 2, the girl is slouched over a bit. On 3 and 5, her posture is really good. The boy's posture is excellent in both, but I would have done something with his left hand. I think these are your kids. I'd print No. 5 as big as any wall could take it, but you've probably already done that (or should have) a few dozen times.
Howdy!
I have been away from FM for years, and today visited and by chance opened this post (first post I opened today). I don't know anything about the photographer (OP), nor have I seen any other photos by them/you. So, take my comments as coming from an impartial observer.

Those are wise words if you are doing photography to please yourself first, others secondly. That has motivated me for 20+ years, so I agree with Ron and really appreciate what he wrote and how he said it.
If you do stick to your own style, there is a chance others (some, but don't expect all) will like it too.
And that, in the end, becomes more satisfying, if one is not solely driven by fame, popularity, or money (or using photos to pay the bills).
Since these are your own children, I think it is a wonderful opportunity for you to do anything you want photographically with them as subjects. Have fun with it. Challenge yourself. Try new things. Experiment. I would.
Unfortunately I don't have children, so I have always have to please others (clients, their parents), as much as possible within my own preferable styles.
If this is the style you prefer above others, practice, and perfect it as much as possible.
Whatever you do, don't let any negative criticism from others keep you from enjoying the creative outlet of photography.

I enjoyed seeing the photos you made. I think they are pleasing.
My favorite from this set is #3.
I like the lighting and poses, formal costumes, etc.
I don't mind the smile-less expressions, as those are also human expressions.
As for the comments about skin editing?
To each their own. I see good points for most of the comments up above. But, that does not negate what FRISCORON wrote.
One can go "painterly" with smooth skin, or to an extreme (subjective opinions) "plasticky" look (not my taste).
Or one can go with "what the eye sees" etc. (my preference)
Or one can go to "extreme sharpening" (not my taste).
I hope these comments help.
Sincerely,
Steady
