Hi Alex,

I just purchased the a7Riv and LA-EA5 adaptor and tested it indoors in my basement and had similar hunting issues, I will try it outdoors tomorrow.

I still have an a99ii hanging around. Do you recommend keeping the a99ii for the 500 or sell both and get an E lens instead?
I also checked out my Tamron 150-600 G2 and it hunts too, though it works much better on the a99ii.

Tom

The 500/8 is just not designed to focus quickly. It is too bad. it is so much nicer to carry than the 200-600 G OSS. It is also challenging to get a nice looking image with Reflex.

Low-light focusing often works better with an SLT. The 15-point sensor used in the LA-EA4 is also better in those conditions than the 79-point sensor used in the A99II.

None of the Tamron A-mount lenses support the performance update that Sony made when the original A77 was released. Sony described that update as offering 4x better tracking performance. The A99II should perform best with the updated Sony SSM II lenses.
