Maybe I should give a little bit of background of myself first, I’m originally from Kerala, India; for the last 26 years I’m living in Colorado.
Kerala's climate is mainly wet and maritime tropical, heavily influenced by the seasonal heavy rains with an annual rainfall of up to 150 inches. Being from this area I was always fascinated with the abundance of birds, but never was a serious bird watcher or photographer while growing up there. I used to visit on a yearly basis since I moved to Colorado, but skipped last year’s visit due to pandemic. Finally, I made another trip at the end of November and decided to carry the camera gear with me, this was the first time I carried a telephoto lens for such a long flight (22hours without layovers). My trip was for a total of 2.5 weeks, but I did bird photography only for 4 days. Due to the thick foliage it’s hard to locate most of the birds there. To maximize the opportunity, I hired a local birding guide for three days, and was very helpful in locating the birds. During this time, we were able to locate and photograph at least 60 species.
Usually November/December time is the best for outdoor activities with less rain and relatively milder temperatures; however, it’s still hot for most of us (85-90F around noon). Overall, it was a great trip with little bit of everything, visiting relatives and friends, spicy authentic Kerala food and bird photography. Hope you enjoy the pics.
Comments, suggestions and questions are welcome as always.
