Hi, Leighton.
No, this is the regular non ED version.

For me the sharper version of the 300/4.5 design is without any doubt this one:

https://www.destoutz.ch/lens_300mm_f4.5_173317.html

Note the golden ring absent from the normal version.

Unfortunatelly few copies were maden of bot K and ai versions, less than 1000 each:
http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html#300

A long time ago I made a test and the images speak by themselves:

General scenario test:
Test Scenario at infinity for the 300mm battle by Jose, on Flickr

Nikkors 300mm f/4.5K ED(non-IF) vs. f/4.5 ais EDIF - @ f/8 by Jose, on Flickr

Scenario at 800m of distance, atmosphere relatively clean.
Left: Nikkor 300mm f/4.5K ai'd ED non-IF; right: Nikkor 300mm f/4.5 ais EDIF.
Top to bottom: centre, left border and righ border crops.
All shots with a D610 + tripod, Live view focusing, mirror lockup and remote shutter. ISO 200.
Images straight out of the camera - printscreen images!

And about CA, at least on the D610 sensor:
CA in Nikkors 300mm f/4.5K ED(non-IF) vs. f/4.5 ais EDIF by Jose, on Flickr
Just to show CA in Nikkors 300mm f/4.5K ED(non-IF) vs. f/4.5 ais EDIF - wide open at right border a 0.2/24.2Mp (0.8% crop). The older design controls CA much better and is sharper border to border.

And a little Nikkor porn, of course

Comparison of Nikkors 300mm f4.5s: ED (non-IF) vs. EDIF by Jose, on Flickr

1st: Nikkor 300mm f/4.5K (factory ai'd) ED (non-IF);
2nd: Nikkor 300mm f/4.5 ais EDIF
Each comparative shot was:
Left: set at infinity focus
Middle: set at MFD (4m & 2.5m)
Bottom: set at MFD and with hood extended.

All shots with D610 + Nikkor 85mm f/1.8K factory ai'd + tripod + built in flash + diffuser; ISO 200, wide open (f/1.8) at 1/60s.

I do not have the 300/4.5 non IF K, ai or ais, but suppose it is less sharp than the ED(non-IF) version.
