I had a super morning at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside, NY yesterday. The rain kept the crowds away and the astronomical hi tide was at a perfect level leaving a little land and lots of ponds for the wading birds to fish. The lovely soft light was super for portraits. Well done Morris! The prettiest of all the swallows (IMHO).
Please tell me what is the claw looking black thing on the chest? I've noticed this in other Tree Swallows.
