Hi Duncan, thanks for the video.

The R5 can do that easy -10 fps and get 98 % of the frames in focus on a rainy day. Not with that bird mind you but with red-wing blackbirds and such in my area.
What I mean by keep up is: Focus and tracking and when you look at the pictures on your 5k Imac after the shoot they are in focus.
But the main reason that I'm interested in the A1 is to turn down the fps say to 10-15 let say, I can get 12 fps mechanical with the r5 but I really like the silent shutter for my type of photography. I'm tired of culling through 200 frames of the same bird in tack sharp focus. Close your eyes and pick one.
I think Canon has no interest in giving us that option in a firmware update.
I don't see much difference in the glass performance from both Sony or Canon, so not loosing anything there.
The only thing I did notice in the video is the bird is perched in the photos, when the photographer is showing the tack sharp eye, or that's what it looks like to me.
Thanks for taking the time to search out the video, really helps visual learners... great tool those videos.

So just out of curiosity can you show me the R5 doing this

That's 1.5 seconds and 43 in focus images 1 out of focus and 2 missed frames in that sequence.

I think even you would have to agree the R5 cannot do that - now to me that seems like I would have 10 more frames to choose from than I would have from an R5.

What exactly did you mean by "Keep Up".

Bear in mind I don't care if it does or doesn't keep up - I am just curious by what measure you think it "Keeps Up".

I guess if you mean it is "One Third Behind" then yes I suppose it does "Keep Up".

BTW this is intended for Pius (I have no idea how to respond directly to him on this forum)

I'll sell you a lightly used A1 when the Z9 comes out

So you must think Nikon is going to lay a whooping on Sony?

What areas, focus and tracking, MP or FPS?

Better flippy screen? with better res.

Or a bigger grip so your lens does not pop off when us Canadians wear glove in the winter months.

Given my day job I'm a little more coordinated than Dufous Northrup when it comes to handling things with precision. I know I seem to be in the minority but the right hand lens release button is easily in my top 10 things I love about Sony...maybe even my top 5.

I'm not so sure about that, it scares me my lens falling off... that's alot of money falling on the ground and Tony seems very knowledge about Sony gear.
