I thought the purple fringing on the water reflection was HORRIBLE. I could spot it on my laptop screen without zooming in, not full screen even.

I think that is a deal breaker for me. It is really bad... I mean purple water?

The lens is fairly small, very sharp while still retaining smooth bokeh and has superfast AF.
So I really can't see how this is a deal breaker. Which 35/1.4 does much better in such a difficult lighting situation?

I think my sigma f1.2 don't have so much purple fringing.

Anyway the Lens is in stock and my local shop asked me to collect. There seems to be quite a lot of stock as he said he had 10 pieces and is selling at his usual discount off list price. Usually for Day 0 lens, he sells them at list price as stock is very limited.

I decided not to buy it because of the purple fringing. It is above my threshold and after shooting many many shots with my sigma, I don't think it is that bad. I would have noticed such fringing easily without pixel peeping. It is so obvious even on web sized prints. I literally drove out to the shop and then turned back I think selling away the other lens is too much of a hassle. I suspect I will sell away the gm after comparison so why go all the trouble.

I can tolerate color fringing if they are not visible on web sized prints. I already have the sigma f1.2 which is good in all aspects except weight.

I am in Singapore so I expect Asia pacific countries is getting their lens today

Soooo you see one image on the internet and you draw a conclusion from that? Glad I have never done that. I would have missed out on a ton of great glass.

I might still buy it later but not at day1. Reason is there seems to be plenty of stocks and I only really shoot during vacations... I bought the sigma 85mm f1.4 dg dn last year to replace my sony 85mm f1.8 partly because it looks better on all fronts. But I have not really shot much with it...

I am really brand neutral. I have the 24mm gm and 135mm gm, sigma 14-24mm, 35mm f1.2, 85mm f1.4.
I have went through like 35mm f1.4art, 35mm f1.4 ZA, 40mm f1.4 sigma, and finally settled on the 35mm f1.2 which is really good.

For the the only reason to get the 35mm gm is the weight... but on the assumption its IQ is not much worse.

You think that level of purple fringing is acceptable? or you think dpreview has a lemon? or what?

Wrong person to ask I'm not a fan of DPR. I don't rely on Internet images no matter who posts them really. If it's a focal length/lens I really am interested in I will always buy it and test it out myself. That said my testing is alot different than most here on FM. I take a lens and just go shoot, that's it. I don't get into test charts, diagonal upside down images, 400% pixel peeping, etc... Nothing wrong with those things if that what floats your boat. Just not my thing. If an image looks good to me on my screen and in print that's all that matters to me. Almost anything can be fixed today with software if needed anyway. What I can't fix with software is the size and weight of my equipment. Which is why I moved to Sony in the first place.

... so u expect to fix all your pic in post? 35mm f1.8 is lighter you know. It is also a sony. I mean you must have some standards for IQ whereby a lens is no go. I do like testing lens and I have gone through many 35mm. But usually the new lens must have something "better" to motivate me.

That pic Dpreview posted is actually not a test chart, neither it is pixel peeping. Like I said, my threshold for IQ is anything that gets on my nerves with web sized prints. That is a pretty easy bar but that purple fringing....
