That doesn't seem possible to me. I find my 28-70 is somewhat better than the 24-105G in the mid range.
I picked up a 28-60. If anything it seems a bit worse than the 28-70 OSS especially at the wide end. Sony may have improved their manufacturing since the bad experiences people have had.

I picked up a 28-60. It was impossible. The 28-60 is not quite as good as the 28-70 OSS overall.
