Bumping this thread because the lens that good.
I went to catch the last of the crane migration through the upper midwest. This spot is about 70 minutes NE of my home and has a beautiful mix of wetland and southern Boreal Forest. Called the Pine Barrens, this region of WI has bear, an active wolf pack, and even fisher. Between 8000 and 10,000 cranes migrate through the Fish Lake and Crex Meadows area each October and hang on until a hard frost. While we've had 20 degree weather and snow already, last week's 70 degree days and warm nights have held some birds in place. Saturday evening I saw fewer than 1000 cranes, but the ones I did see gave us a nice "show."... last shot is not w/ the PF, but gives you a look at the landscape.
