This is a very good review of the Canon R5 where your question about blackout was addressed. According to the Reviewer’s comments:
“No Blackout. None!!!“…….“The R5’s autofocus system surpasses the A9II’s, especially the animal eye autofocus. It’s amazing. I was shocked...”
Note: The Reviewer was recently shooting with a Sony A9II. He also previously shot with 1DX MKII so he provides a very well rounded viewpoint.

Minute 30:20. EVF wake up time which I don't like about the R. Is he kinda contradicting himself? He mentions the EVF shutting off to save battery power is good. Later he says to leave the LCD on and it switches between it and the LCD. Is that not good for saving battery power?
Personally I don't care about battery power. I'll get a few spares if I need to. I'm more interested in the EVF wake up speed. Does anyone have a R to compare. Is the R5 better? Either way when I'm birding I'll just leave the time out speeds at the maximum settings for quick EVF response time.
What I got from what he's saying, is you need the lcd screen active to have the evf come on instantly when you raise the camera to your eye. I took the eos R for several test drives and that was a huge issue for birds in flight or sports action. If you need to dissipate heat why would you not give users the option to turn things on and off.
If he wanted a quick response from the evf he had to leave the lcd on, hence a trade off for battery life...
That is what I got out of it as well. In the R's power saving menu you can disable VF off. I disabled both the VF and Power Off and the LCD to shut off in 15 seconds. With the LCD active the VF woke up right away. After the LCD shut off there was a delay even with the VF off disabled. Looks like I'm getting extra batteries.
I don't like the sound of the delay but I don't need to be flipping my screen in either. What I would like to know is if I shut off Auto sensor between LCD/EVF and run the camera with a programmed button to switch between EVF/LCD does the EVF shut off still when I drop it down from my eye (leaving the LCD off also, but not flipping the LCD inwards) and then do we get that same wake-up delay in the EVF when I bring it back to my eye. Or does the EVF actually just stay on all the time if I am manually switching between the two? Which would eliminate the delay but waste battery.
Sorry for all the posts. I was experimenting.
1. You can set the M-Fn button or other buttons to toggle between the Display and VF. You can still use auto by keeping the EVF sensor enabled but it is faster using the M-Fn button. There is a bit of a delay when the sensor does it.
2. As long as whatever is in the Display is the same as VF using the M-Fn button is quick. If you are toggling between for example between the menus on the Display and the scene in the VF there is a delay.
3. The VF always shuts off after about 6 seconds if there is nothing in front of it. If you have the power savings settings set high so nothing shuts off for a long period of time and press the shutter or BBF before lifting the camera to your eye the VF will be awake by the time you get it there.
4. You can avoid needing to press the shutter or BBF by tricking the sensor with some tape but there has to be a gap between it and the sensor. If you are using the M-Fn button and manually switching between the VF and Display, the Display will be off thus saving battery power.
