Is that near Fisherman's Wharf? I did not get the chance to go there last year, but have a distant memory of the spot and getting on the tram near there from ~15 years ago. One other thing I also remember is the sea lions parked out there.
Unfortunately today there's a news item on a fire that's destroyed part of the pier at Fisherman's Wharf.

It is a bit of a walk from The Fisherman's Wharf. It is past past Pier 45 and Hyde Street Pier which also has very interesting historical ships. Keep walking along the beach and should see a substantial concrete pier that at its end, curves towards the city which is perfect for views. One can also see The Golden Gate from there. It great spot for photos and where the above was taken.
Just heard about the terrible fire. Sad news indeed but at least no serious injuries have been reported.
